Carrom is a popular South Asian tabletop game that combines elements of billiards and air hockey. Players use a heavy striker to flick smaller wooden or plastic discs, called carrom men, into the four corner pockets of a square wooden board.
Essential Equipment
-
Carrom Board: A square plywood playing surface with hardwood borders. Official tournament boards have a 29 × 29 inch (74 × 74 cm) playing area.
-
Carrom Men: 19 discs in total — 9 white, 9 black, and 1 red Queen.
-
Striker: A larger, heavier disc, typically around 15 g, used to strike the carrom men.
-
Carrom Powder: Fine boric acid or starch powder spread across the board to reduce friction and help the pieces slide smoothly.
